PART 86. ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION, TRANSMISSION, AND  
DISTRIBUTION  
R 408.18601 Scope.  
Rule 8601. This standard establishes the work practices to be used during the  
operation and maintenance of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution  
facilities. These rules apply to all of the following:  
(a) Enclosed spaces.  
(b) Hazardous energy control.  
(c) Working near energized parts.  
(d) Grounding for employee protection.  
(e) Underground and overhead installations.  
(f) Line clearance tree trimming.  
(g) Substations and generating plants.  
(h) Other conditions and equipment unique to the generation, transmission, and  
distribution of electric energy.

R 408.18602 Adoption of a federal standard.  
Rule 8602. (1) The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)  
regulation 29 C.F.R. §1910.269, “Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and  
Distribution” and appendices, as amended October 5, 2015, are adopted by reference in  
these rules.  
(2) The adopted federal regulations have the same force and effect as a rule  
promulgated under the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act, 1974 PA 154,  
MCL 408.1001 to 408.1094.  
(3) The availability information for the OSHA standard adopted in these rules is in  
R 408.18605 and MIOSHA standards referenced in these rules are in R 408.18610.  
(4) The OSHA standards referenced in 1910.269 are listed in Table 1 with the  
equivalent MIOSHA standard. See Table 1.
