The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs will hold a public hearing to receive public  
comments on proposed changes to the Optometry - General Rules rule set.  
The proposed changes amend the definitions, update accreditation standards, clarify and revise  
continuing education requirements, and amend the testing requirements for licensure to align them with  
the changes that were made to the National Board of Examiners in Optometry examination.  
By the authority conferred on the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in consultation with the  
board by MCL 333.16145, 333.16148, 333.16174, 333.16287, and 333.17431 and Executive  
Reorganization Order Nos. 1991-9, 1996-2, 2003-1, and 2011-4, MCL 338.3501, 445.2001, 445.2011,  
and 445.2030.  
The proposed rules will take effect immediately after filing with the Secretary of State. The proposed  
rules are published on the State of Michigan's website at www.michigan.gov/ARD and in the 8/1/2024  
issue of the Michigan Register. Copies of these proposed rules may also be obtained by mail or
