Board of Dentistry met on April 8, 2021. The meeting was held via Zoom, pursuant to  
MCL 15.263, MCL 15.263a, and Ingham County Resolution #21-138.  
CALL TO ORDER

RDA Committee  
Barnhart stated that the RDA Committee meet on April 2, 2021, via Zoom. She stated  
that they discussed the RDA licensure history and renewal information. Barnhart stated  
that as of March 1, 2021, there are 1,827 RDAs in the state of Michigan. She stated that  
Macomb Community College is opening a registered dental assistant and dental hygienist  
program that should be available for enrollment in the fall of 2021.  
RDH Committee  
No report.  
Rules Committee  
MacIntosh reported that the administrative rules should complete the promulgation  
process very soon.  
PA 161 Update  
Erin Suddeth, RDH, BS, MPA, with MDHHS-Oral Health, reported that they currently have  
53 programs including 147 supervising dentists, 262 dental hygienists, and 152 dental  
assistants.  
Disciplinary Subcommittee  
Brewer provided a summary of the Disciplinary Subcommittee (DSC) Agenda.  
Ad Hoc Committee on Anesthesia  
Please see Old Business. The Committee will meet again prior to the board meeting on  
June 10, 2021.  
NEW BUSINESS  
Rules Discussion  
MacIntosh stated that the current proposed Dentistry – General Rules draft is close to  
promulgation.

the current proposed draft is promulgated.

Chair Report  
Johnston stated that Goodrich and Morgan had both participated in Commission on  
Dental Accreditation (CODA) site visits. Morgan stated that she visited Jackson College,  
virtually, on March 24 and 25, 2021. She stated that the purpose of the visits was to  
review the accreditation standards of the program(s) offered. Goodrich visited the  
University of Michigan, School of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Pain.  
Johnston stated that dentists can assist in providing COVID-19 vaccinations. A training  
is given through the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS).  
Johnston stated that Botox injections to a patient is allowed if properly trained to  
administer Botox and if the purpose is for treatment of pain, deformity, deficiency, injury  
or a physical condition of the teeth, gums, jaw, and their related tissue. It ultimately  
depends on the facts and circumstances.  
Johnston stated that the dental specialty bill has been reintroduced.  
Department Update  
MacIntosh stated that the Bureau will hold the next Board Member Training on July 13,  
2021. All Board members are welcome to attend.  
Wysack reminded the Board Members to check their state email address regularly as it  
is the source of communication with the Department. She stated that the state email  
address is now used as the User ID for Egress, so it is important to get in the habit of  
checking the email on a regular basis.
