In accordance with the Open Meetings Act, 1976 PA 267, as amended, the Michigan  
Board of Massage Therapy met on July 19, 2021, at 611 West Ottawa Street, Upper-  
Level Conference Room 4, Lansing, Michigan 48933.  
CALL TO ORDER

Conferee Training  
Smith presented a training titled “Conferee Training 2021.”  
FSMTB Meeting Update  
Stout presented a report provided by Wiley, who attended a Town Hall meeting held by  
FSMTB. The meeting addressed clinical versus apprenticeship programs offered in  
massage therapy schools and the possible problems with them. Michigan is not a state  
that recognizes apprenticeship programs. Discussion indicated that FSMTB’s Matilda  
database provides discipline information on licensees.  
Rules Discussion  
Marks stated that the rules were promulgated on April 1, 2021. She stated that there is  
new legislation, regarding reciprocity for Canadian licensees, that needed to be  
addressed in the rules.

Chair Report  
Stout stated that there were legislative changes coming regarding 1) Misdemeanors  
unrelated to the practice of the profession are not necessarily grounds for loss of license  
and 2) Prostitution, now referred to as commercial sexual activity, is not being prosecuted  
in several counties within the state of Michigan.  
Department Update  
Wysack reminded the board members to check their state email address regularly as it is  
the source of communication with the Department. She explained how to complete the  
travel voucher and the need to register with Sigma for reimbursement.  
PUBLIC COMMENT  
Mike Krombeen with the American Massage Therapy Association – Michigan (AMTA),  
stated that he was looking forward to working on the rules with the Board. He stated that  
the AMTA was developing a product for implicit bias training.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held October 4, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at 611  
W. Ottawa Street, Upper-Level Conference Center Room 3, Lansing, Michigan 48933.
