Labor Day Festival planned  
MARQUETTE —The Marquette Alger Community  
Labor Council and the U.P. Regional Labor Federation  
invite everyone to participate in the 32nd Annual Labor  
Day Festival.  
The event will be held in Ishpeming on Labor Day,  
Monday. The theme for this year is “Unions Are Essen-  
tial!”  
The festival will begin at 11 a.m. with a parade along  
Euclid Street, Main Street, Division Street and Lakeshore  
Drive. This year’s parade marshal will be Chris Wagner,  
United Auto Workers.  
Local unions are encouraged to march and enter floats  
in the parade that reflect the theme. Contact Tony Ghir-

for details and to confirm participation. Parade line up  
starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum park-  
ing lot.  
After the parade, there will be a picnic and rally from  
noon to 4 p.m. at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum and the  
Lake Bancroft Park. There will be a picnic lunch. Adult  
beverages will be sold along with additional pop and wa-  
ter. The rally will include music, speeches and children’s  
activities.  
In addition, the Cliff Shaft volunteers will once again be  
providing free tours (donations will be accepted and are  
encouraged) from noon-2 p.m. for those who are interest-  
ed in visiting the museum.
