3. Purpose for the proposed rules and background:  
The Architects – General Rules pertain to definitions, education, experience, examination, licensure,  
relicensure, standards of conduct, the seal, license renewal, and continuing education for architects.  
Amendment of the rules will take place to supply clarity on definitions, education, experience,  
examination, relicensure, standards of conduct, the seal, license renewal, and continuing education  
requirements for architects.

MCL 24.242 and 24.245

The proposed revisions to the rules update accreditation standards for architecture educational  
programs; require a certificate of completion of any National Council of Architectural Registration  
Boards (NCARB) internship program or proof of current and continuous licensure in another state of  
at least five years to satisfy the experience requirement for licensure, clarify the requirements of the  
design and use of the seal of an architect; and include activities that qualify for continuing education,  
the documentation needed to show completion of the activity upon audit, and the limitations for  
receiving credit in qualifying continuing education activities.
