Physical Therapy - General Rules
3. Purpose for the proposed rules and background:
The Physical Therapy – General Rules pertain to education, examinations, training, licenses, and
professional development requirements for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.
Amendment of the rules will take place to supply clarity regarding definitions, telehealth,
prescriptions, human trafficking training, program accreditation, examinations, licensure,
endorsement, relicensure, requirements for graduates of non-accredited institutions, delegation, and
professional development requirements.
4. Summary of proposed rules:
The proposed rules will: include definitions of terms used in the rule set; adopt updated educational
standards; clarify licensing requirements for graduates of non-accredited programs; clarify conditions
under which the board will consider a request from an applicant for an appeal of current examination
policies; clarify the requirement of full licensure and educational requirements for licensees from
Canada; clarify the examination pathway requirement for licensees whose licenses have expired more
than three years; clarify the period in which a licensee must request a waiver of continuing education;
and supply updated accreditation standards for professional development requirement (PDR)
activities.
