The Department of State will hold a public hearing to receive public comments on proposed changes to the  
Conduct of Election Recounts rule set.  
The purpose of these rules is to amend the Conduct of Election Recounts rules by updating terminology to  
account for technological and procedural changes since the rules were promulgated in 1979. The rules will also  
be updated to conform with current legal requirements and current practices.  
By authority conferred on the board of state canvassers by section 889 of the Michigan election law, 1954 PA  
116, MCL 168.889.  
The proposed rules will take effect immediately after filing with the Secretary of State. The proposed rules are  
published on the State of Michigan's website at http://www.michigan.gov/ARD and in the 6/1/2024 issue of the  
Michigan Register. Copies of these proposed rules may also be obtained by mail or email at the following email
