I strongly support the idea of reducing the amount of hours for a cosmetologist enrolled in barber
college.
Respectfully,

Hello and thank you for the opportunity to comment on this topic.
My name is Gregory Stack and I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist since 2006. I was also a trained barber in the US
Navy from 1993-1996. I’m currently enrolled in Barber school at Metro Detroit Barber College, where I have just
under 400 hours. These new proposed rules for barber eligibility I think is long overdue. Considering the curriculum
for both barbers and cosmetology in Michigan are so similar, I think it makes complete sense to give credit for hours
in cosmetology to put towards barber hours. Even the text books are written by the same authors and publishers, the
majority of the texts are exactly the same. I am in complete favor of implementing these new rules.
Again thank you for letting me comment on this matter.

Hello,
I am a licensed cosmetologist and have been for 11 years. My entire career I have specialized in
men’s hair. I am extremely happy to hear about the possibility of a rule change for licensed
cosmetologists to be able to be credited 1,000 hours in the barber school program. However being a
stylist that specializes in men’s hair and has been doing so since 2011, I still feel 800 hours of school
for an already licensed professional, (who has been practicing this trade for over a decade) in order
to obtain a barber license is still too many. The difference between cosmetology and barber schools
is 300 hours. Personally I feel that 800 hours is was too many. But nonetheless a step in the right
direction to bringing both industry’s together.
